What are you doing today to make a difference? See what Thirsties is doing!

Posted by Green Team at 10:56 AM
Today, I turned down our thermostat to 65 degrees when we are home. We normally leave it at 67 degrees and turn it down to 65 degrees when we leave, well that is if we remember. I know that might seem cold but our house gets really good sun so it warms up nicely and the kids and I can wear sweatshirts to stay warm right?

So what are you doing today to make a difference?

I hope more businesses will stand up and take notice of what Thirsties out of Colorado is doing. They are installing solar panels to power their entire warehouse. There will be enough power produced to give back to the local energy company as well.

To see the full story go here.

And remember it is that simple if each of us do 1 thing to save energy today, can you imagine the impact we can make on the world around us.

Hello from another Wisconsinite! ;) We keep our thermostat at 65 - 66 (sometimes 67) during the day and turn it down to 65 at night.

We have a small water heater (20 gallon tank).

We compost all compostables (goes in our garden).

We grow our own fruit (30 plus fruit trees on a less than 1/4 acre lot) and vegetables (two large gardens in back). Can't wait until spring/summer!

We use our bath towels over again (I know a lot of people who wash theirs after one use).

We are going back to cloth diapering for Baby #2 (due in 3 weeks)!

We hang our clothes outside to dry from April - October.

We only turn the lights on if we need them on.

We buy a lot of local products -- gotta love Organic Valley!

We only have one car.

We don't water our lawn. Ever. As in, we don't even own a sprinkler (lawn watering uses 140 gallons of water per HOUR!).

And I'll save the best for last: we breastfeed! :)

That is great Sarah! I know I am looking forward to growing my garden again, our crop last year did not go well.

Yay for cloth diapering! Both of my kids are in cloth!

We made our own baby food as well.

I know what is up with the bath towels, we wash ours weekly and when I moved here people were like yuck. My thinking is your using it after you are clean. So silly.

We don't water our lawn either, it actually is harmful to the lawn to water it on and off like most do in summer. It burns out the grass, just leave it go dorminate. Oh well.

Awesome work!

I know! I figure if you're drying a clean body with a bath towel, it's silly to wash it everytime. My co-worker thought it was gross, but she also Lysols EVERYTHING because she's a germophobe. No use explaining green cleaners to her. ;)

By the way, your word verification doesn't have an "Enter" button after it -- it's really hard to get my comments to go through!

I changed the verification process so hopefully it will be easier to post comments.

I will have to see if I can find this study I read once, about how the green old cleaners were actually more effective then the chemicals used it most new cleaners. They did cultures and everything it was pretty cool.

Ah, okay! Yeah, I think this works better. Who knows -- maybe it was just me?
